Intra-articular therapy is commonly used in the treatment of athletes.
The Italian Sports Medical Federation (FMSI) has launched a Consensus Conference to shed light on the indications and procedures of intra-articular therapy in athletes and subjects who conduct professional or amateur competitive sports.
Seventeen FMSI AI therapy experts representing multiple sports disciplines along with a rheumatologist expert in intra-articular therapy, an interventional ultrasound radiologist and a pediatrician formed the consensus board. Through two meetings and two Delphi rounds, after a thorough systematic search of the literature, the consensus identified the open questions and related recommendations.
Only the recommendations that reached over 66% of the agreement were accepted.
Systematic literature search yielded 12 articles. The consensus elaborated 19 questions with the relative answers. Only the 15 recommendations that reached over 66% of the agreement and were included in the recommendations; the remaining four were not accepted.
The intensity of the recommendation was wide (range between 7.97-9.00). A research agenda of unsolved questions was also drawn up.
