Course of Dr. Silvana Giannini on the use of areinvestigation
On January 22, the course on face ultrasound was held by Professor Silvana Giannini, Top Specialist for Diagnosis of the Osteoarticular System. This study is aimed at surgeons who wish to deepen the use of ultrasound in the assessment of the face by exposing the principles and procedures of Evidence-based medicine, the modern medical practice based on scientific evidence.
The role of facial ultrasound in the context of scientific evidence
Ultrasound, also called ultrasound tomography, is a safe and painless investigation that does not use radiation. In fact, it is based on the principle of ultrasound transmission and echo emission and represents a first level examination, often preliminary to more complex investigations, such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.
The ultrasound technique is used for the static and dynamic study of the body and to accurately investigate its physiological characteristics and structural changes. Ultrasound combines the obvious advantages listed above with a negative point: its reliability is operator-dependent.
The course held by Professor Giannini represented the union between the authority of the Top Specialist, now head of the Radiology Service of the FIFA Medical Center of Excellence at Casa di Cura Villa Stuart in Rome - Top Physio Balduina, and communication of the scientific consensus on the method, or the state of the art relating to a given topic.
The ultrasound study of the face
“Ultrasound of the face” was an in-depth study based on a practical approach and handed over essential knowledge into the hands of physicians-surgeons. The many topics covered ranged from the correct orientation of the patient during the execution of the investigations to the frontal and malar regional evaluation of the facial areas, up to a diagnosis through a differential investigation path passing through the exposure of the main criticalities of the ultrasound approach.Greetings from Professor Giannini
At the end of the work, the Professor personally thanked the participants who showed curiosity and attention to this very complex and ultra-specialized topic. All this was possible thanks to the use of high frequency probes and the possibility of testing the ultrasound instrumentation made available by the main market leading suppliers for the development of this technology applied to the study of the face.
